The club confirmed in a statement that medical examinations revealed an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his right leg, noting that his recovery timeline will depend on the evolution of his condition and response to treatment.

The statement read: "Following tests carried out on our player Raúl Asencio by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg. His recovery will be monitored."

According to Spanish media reports, the 23-year-old center-back is expected to be sidelined for between four to six weeks.

Asencio made 34 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos last season, scoring two goals.

Asencio played the first half of Tuesday's friendly match against Leganés at Valdebebas before sustaining the injury.

Real Madrid, led by their returning Portuguese manager José Mourinho, will open their season against Espanyol on August 22, before hosting Real Sociedad on August 26 and Málaga on August 30.
