The victory took Atletico Madrid to seven points from three matches, moving them temporarily to the top of the La Liga standings on goal difference, pending the completion of the round’s remaining fixtures. Sevilla remained on six points in fifth place.

The visitors, known as the “Rojiblancos,” took control from the opening minutes and broke the deadlock in the fourth minute through Alex Baena. He beat the offside trap to receive a through ball from South Korean Lee Kang-in before calmly firing into the far corner.

Sevilla nearly equalized soon after through Ruben Vargas, but Atletico doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman fired a surprise effort inside the near post, following a powerful run through the middle by Pablo Barrios.

Baena continued his outstanding performance by scoring his second goal of the match and Atletico’s third in the 33rd minute. His powerful shot from outside the box found the far corner, giving his side a comfortable advantage before halftime.

Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak also impressed, making several important saves to deny the hosts and preserve Atletico’s clean sheet throughout the first half.

Sevilla attempted to fight their way back into the match after the break and managed to reduce the deficit through Miguel Sierra in the 66th minute. Atletico, however, remained in control during the closing stages and held on to secure all three points away from home.

In other matches, Levante thrashed visiting Real Betis 5-2 to hand them their first defeat of the competition after two consecutive victories. Real Sociedad also defeated visiting Espanyol 2-1.
