Study reveals a surge in Israeli substance use since Oct. 7

TEL AVIV – On Wednesday, a study was published showing a significant increase in the number of Israelis using “sleeping pills, drugs, alcohol, and addictive medications” since October 7, Al-Mamlaka TV reported. اضافة اعلان
In the study released by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, researchers examined substance abuse after October 7, affecting 420 Israelis aged 18 and above.

The study revealed a noticeable rise in the consumption of addictive substances. Among the participants, 16 percent reported a slight increase in nicotine use, while 10 percent increased alcohol consumption. Additionally, 5.5 percent reported increased cannabis use. The study also highlighted a significant increase in the use of prescription drugs that can lead to addiction, with 11 percent using sedatives, 10 percent using sleeping pills, as well as 8 percent using painkillers.
