Two Explosive Drones
On Monday, the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Service revealed that the office of Regional Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil, northern Iraq, was targeted by two explosive drones launched from the Iranian side, with no casualties reported.
In a statement, the agency said that two explosive drones of the "Hadid-110" model targeted the headquarters of the private office of the Kurdistan KRG Prime Minister and the Director of the Region's Security Services in the Pirmam district of Erbil Governorate, northern Iraq.
The agency added that the two strikes caused no human casualties, while strongly condemning what it described as unacceptable attacks under any circumstances.
The Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Service held the perpetrators fully responsible for the consequences of the attack.
For his part, Barzani confirmed that his office was targeted by an Iranian drone, calling it a direct threat to Kurdistan's security.
"Following investigations conducted by the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Unit, it was determined that my personal office and the residence of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency were targeted by Iranian drone strikes earlier today," Barzani stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
He added: "I condemn in the strongest possible terms these reckless and unacceptable attacks; this is a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region," continuing: "These attacks will not deter us from performing our duties and protecting our citizens."
Locations in Erbil have faced an increasing number of drone attacks since the escalation of retaliatory strikes between the United States and Iran over three weeks ago.
