The commission published these statistics in an informational brief titled "Key Indicators of Settler Colonialism and Control Over Palestinian Land," which it distributed to journalists.
The commission stated that the number of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, reached approximately 780,000 by the end of last July, explaining that 333,600 reside in Jerusalem settlements and 446,400 in other areas of the West Bank.
It pointed out that the settlers are distributed across 192 colonies, alongside 400 colonial outposts—including 231 pastoral outposts—and the "Ganim" settlement near Jenin, which Netanyahu's government re-established 20 years after its evacuation on August 15.
It indicated that official Israeli orders show Israeli control extending to 42 percent of the total area of the West Bank, amounting to approximately 5,660 square kilometers, and to 71 percent of Area C, reaching up to 91 percent of the Palestinian Jordan Valley.
Pointing to the escalating pace of Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank since the outbreak of the war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, the commission confirmed that the number of settlements stood at 180 by the end of 2023, in addition to 180 outposts. Meanwhile, the West Bank has been witnessing an escalation in settler attacks and Israeli military incursions amid Palestinian and international warnings over the repercussions of their continuation.
