U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric toward Canada on Sunday, following Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's announcement of retaliatory tariffs on American imports after bilateral trade negotiations stalled.

In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that Canada "wants the benefits of a U.S. State without being one," criticizing tariffs that he claimed Ottawa had imposed on American farmers for years, adding: "Enough is enough."
Carney had announced on Saturday the implementation of new tariffs set to take effect on September 8, specifically targeting U.S. steel and dairy product imports.
This escalation comes after new U.S. tariffs of 50% took effect on Saturday, impacting Canadian goods valued at approximately $20 billion—representing roughly 5.5% of Canada's total exports to the United States.
These reciprocal measures intensify trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa at a time when both governments are seeking to reach understandings regarding tariffs and overall trade relations between the two nations.
