Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that it had shot down a drone while it was flying toward an area that hosts foreign embassies.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Turki Al-Maliki, said on the platform X that a “hostile drone was shot down while attempting to approach the Diplomatic Quarter,” after confirming that Saudi Arabia had also intercepted another drone in the eastern part of the country.
Al-Maliki added that two drones heading toward the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter were intercepted and destroyed.
Israel and the United States have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, February 28, which resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has responded by launching missiles and drones targeting Israel and countries in the region.
Iran has also imposed a maritime blockade on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and targeted oil tankers attempting to cross it.
