In an official statement, the military identified the soldier:
"First Sergeant Eyal Uriel Bianco, 30, from Katzrin—a fire truck driver in the 188th Brigade—fell during a battle in South Lebanon."
Diplomatic Developments
This escalation comes as Lebanon and Israel are set to hold "peace talks" at the ambassadorial level at the U.S. State Department in Washington on Tuesday. These discussions represent the first of their kind at this level in decades, though observers suggest the prospects for reaching a final agreement remain slim.
Key participants in the 11:00 AM (Washington D.C. time) meeting include:
Marco Rubio: U.S. Secretary of State.
Nada Hamadeh Moawad: Lebanese Ambassador to the United States.
Yehiel Leiter: Israeli Ambassador to the United States.
