In a message addressed “to the residents of Gaza City and everyone present there,” the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson said via social media:

“Starting from this moment, and in order to facilitate those leaving the city, we declare the Al-Mawasi area (south) a humanitarian zone.”

The United Nations estimates that nearly one million people live in Gaza City and its surroundings and warns of a “catastrophe” if Israel launches a large-scale assault on the city.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said on Friday that 69 people had been killed and 422 injured in the past few hours.

In its daily statistical report on casualties from the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, the ministry added that a number of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, with ambulance and civil defense crews still unable to reach them.

According to the ministry, the death toll from the Israeli assault on Gaza has risen to 64,300 martyrs and 162,005 injuries since October 7, 2023.

Between March 18, 2025, and today alone, the toll has reached 11,768 martyrs and 49,964 injuries.

The ministry also reported that during the past few hours, hospitals in Gaza received 6 martyrs and 190 injuries among humanitarian aid seekers, bringing the total number of “breadwinner martyrs” to 2,362, with more than 17,434 injuries.

Hospitals in the Strip also recorded 3 new deaths in the past few hours. –(AFP)
