U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he may have an “idea” about a potential agreement with Iran within the next few days.
Trump expressed hope for reaching a “great deal” with Iran, stressing that the United States would not allow Tehran to acquire a nuclear weapon.
He added that he expects any future agreement with Iran to be better than the deal reached during the administration of former U.S. President Barack Obama. Trump also voiced his belief that the region would move toward greater stability following the parties’ agreement to a ceasefire.
Trump further stated that the two pilots whose aircraft went down in the Strait of Hormuz were “safe.”
Earlier, the The New York Times cited two informed sources as saying that a U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and that its two-member crew was rescued safely.
The report added that it remains unclear whether the aircraft was brought down by Iranian fire, suffered a technical malfunction, or encountered another problem.
