Commenting on his visit to the Sultanate of Oman—part of a diplomatic tour following the failure of a new round of negotiations with Washington in Islamabad—Araghchi said: "Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is an important global matter. Naturally, as the two coastal states of this strait (Iran and Oman), we must engage in dialogue to ensure our common interests and remain coordinated in any steps taken in this regard."
The Iranian Foreign Minister has intensified his political activity over the past few days. On Friday, he visited Islamabad, where he met with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, before heading to the Sultanate of Oman to meet with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
Upon arriving in Saint Petersburg, Araghchi stated that the objective of his visit to Russia is to "discuss developments related to the war (...) and consult with our friends."
He added that "excessive demands" from Washington were what led to the "failure of the previous round of negotiations despite the progress that had been achieved."
