A Saudi official said Friday that the joint defense agreement signed with Turkey and Pakistan is not linked to "nuclear pursuits" and does not pose a threat to any country in the region.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Public Diplomacy, Rayed Krimly, wrote on the (X) platform: "The agreement does not represent any direction toward building a military axis or a sectarian/denominational bloc, nor is it linked to nuclear pursuits or an arms race, but rather to building sustainable self-capabilities."
He emphasized that the agreement "is not a threat to the security of any country in the region, nor is it an escalation of tension between any two countries."
This comes following the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, signed by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Krimly, the agreement enables the three countries to "develop joint defense capabilities, strategic deterrence, and readiness, as well as work on developing and integrating the defense capabilities of the three nations to jointly counter any threat to their security and territorial integrity."
He noted that the agreement "does not come at the expense of the Kingdom's strong strategic relationships regionally, Arab-wise, and internationally," and that it "does not cancel or replace any bilateral or multilateral agreements between these countries or with other states and organizations."
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed a joint defense agreement in the holy city of Makkah, which will strengthen cooperation among these influential regional powers amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East.
According to the joint statement of the Makkah Summit for Joint Defense between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, the signing of the "Makkah Joint Defense Agreement" aims to enhance the security of the three countries and achieve security, peace, and stability in the region and the world.
