Iran Anticipates U.S. Strike: Deploys Ballistic Missiles and Designates Successor Leadership

Citing three members of the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and high-ranking officials, the newspaper stated that "Iran is operating under the assumption that U.S. military strikes are inevitable and imminent, even as both sides continue diplomatic dialogue and negotiations regarding the nuclear deal."

The report added that Iran has placed all its armed forces on high alert and is preparing for "fierce resistance."

Internal Security and Counter-Espionage
According to the sources, in the event of war, special police units, intelligence officers, and covert Basij battalions affiliated with the IRGC will be deployed on the streets of major cities. These forces will establish checkpoints to prevent internal unrest and search for agents linked to foreign intelligence services.

Succession Planning and Leadership Continuity
The New York Times reported that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has directed his close advisor, Ali Larijani (Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council), along with a select group of political and military aides, to ensure the regime's survival against various threats. These threats include U.S. or Israeli military strikes, as well as potential assassination attempts targeting top leadership, including the Supreme Leader himself.

The report noted that Khamenei issued a series of directives establishing four levels of succession for every military and government position he personally appoints. He also ordered all top officials to name up to four deputies and delegated decision-making authority to a narrow circle of confidants in the event of a communications blackout or his assassination.

Ground Forces: "Ready to Act"
In a related statement, Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi, Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces, asserted that his troops maintain high readiness and are capable of "crushing any threat in its cradle."

He added, "We are monitoring all enemy movements along the country's borders moment by moment."
