AMMAN — Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) personnel have arrested a person in possession of 200,000
counterfeit dollar bills.

In a statement on Thursday, the media
spokesperson for the
Public Security Directorate (PSD) said CID agents had been
tracking leads for weeks about a person in Jerash governorate who had in his
possession a quantity of counterfeit currency and was phoning another person to
sell the fake bills.
A special investigative team followed up on
the case, tracking the suspect in an attempt to identify where he had concealed
the counterfeit currency in order to seize it before it could be traded in the
local market, the
spokesperson said.
The team confirmed reports that the suspect had
agreed to sell the fake currency, and that he was planning to meet the buyer in
Amman to make the exchange.
Police then intercepted and arrested the suspect
and found in his possession 200,000 fake dollar bills.
The suspect was taken in for questioning,
the spokesperson noted.
