Traffic studies have shown a tangible improvement in the flow of vehicles along this vital corridor, which had previously suffered from congestion due to overlapping traffic between visitors to the commercial area and commuters heading toward Queen Alia International Airport.
The improvement comes after the completion of a series of works, including the construction of a 400-meter-long service lane with a width ranging from 9 to 11 meters, stretching from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs exit to the Manaseer gas station exit. The works included excavation, full leveling, milling, and the application of new asphalt, as well as the construction of a 50 cm-wide central island. Additionally, the main Airport Road (carriageway) was widened by one full lane and shoulder within the same section, with ongoing work to install road markings and reflectors.
To facilitate vehicle merging onto the main road, a 100-meter-long acceleration lane was constructed, starting from the Manaseer exit toward the Marj Al-Hamam Bridge. For enhanced safety and traffic organization, a set of directional and warning signs has been installed along the new service lane. As part of the same project, ramps (entrance and exit points) are currently being built to connect the sub-road leading to the Al-Zuhair area in both directions, ensuring a safe and smooth connection to the main road.
The accomplishments also include the full rehabilitation of the median along a section of King Abdullah II Street, extending from the Eighth Circle to the Al-Multaqa Tunnel—a distance of about 1,600 meters. This work included the construction of concrete edges, precise backfilling and grading, landscaping and tree planting to enhance the aesthetic appeal, and curb painting.
The Ministry stated it is continuing efforts to complete the construction and rehabilitation of the median in the section from the Manaseer station toward the Seventh Circle. This includes road painting, installation of road reflectors along the entire service road and key locations to enhance traffic safety. Additionally, rainwater drainage basins will be constructed in critical areas to prevent water pooling and maintain smooth traffic flow. The ramp works for the sub-road connection will also be finalized to ensure full integration with the main road.
