The correspondent reported that a massive explosion was heard in the capital after Ukrainian air defenses shot down a drone near a vital power station, noting that the attacks were particularly concentrated in western areas and along the city’s western approaches.
Local reports said a residential building in Kyiv’s southwestern Holosiivskyi district was targeted by a Geran-4 drone. Emergency crews responded to fires and damage caused by falling drones and debris in several areas.
The developments came after Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that Russian forces were preparing to launch large-scale strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities in response to attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and Russia’s energy sector.
The latest strikes come amid continued exchanges of aerial attacks between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasingly relying on drones to target sites on each other’s territory.
U.S.-mediated talks aimed at ending Russia’s military operation stalled earlier this year after Ukraine rejected Russian demands for further territorial concessions.
