The quarterly unemployment report issued by the Department of Statistics showed that the unemployment rate among the total population in the Kingdom fell to 16.1% during the second quarter of 2026, down 0.4 percentage points from 16.5% in the second quarter of 2025. The unemployment rate among the total population refers to all residents of Jordan, including both Jordanians and non-Jordanians.
The report, published Sunday, also showed that the unemployment rate among Jordanian males and females fell by 0.3 percentage points during the second quarter of 2026, reaching 21.0%, compared with 21.3% in the same quarter of 2025.
The unemployment rate has therefore declined by 1.7 percentage points over the past four years, since the second quarter of 2022.
The report also showed that the unemployment rate among Jordanian males fell by 4.2 percentage points from the second quarter of 2021, when it stood at 22.7%. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among Jordanian females fell by 2.4 percentage points in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2026, and by 2.5 percentage points compared with the second quarter of 2025.
The report also recorded a 5.3 percentage-point decline in the unemployment rate among females overall during the second quarter of 2026, bringing it to 19.9% compared with the second quarter of 2025.
According to the report, the unemployment rate among Jordanians aged 24 and above stood at 18.0% during the second quarter of 2026, while the rate among non-Jordanians in the same age group stood at 5.8%.
The unemployment rate among the non-Jordanian population stood at 8.2% during the second quarter of 2026.
The quarterly report showed that 51.8% of the total unemployed were holders of a secondary school certificate or higher, while 48.2% had educational qualifications below the secondary level.
At the governorate level, Mafraq recorded the highest unemployment rate at 31.6%, while Aqaba recorded the lowest at 9.7%.
By age group, the unemployment rate among individuals aged 24 and above stood at approximately 13.3%, including 12.1% among males and 17.3% among females.
