Jordan's Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Reform and Rehabilitation at ministry headquarters on Wednesday, according to a statement from the ministry. The meeting was attended by Director of Public Security Maj. Gen. Dr. Ubaidallah Al-Maayatah and the secretaries-general of the ministries represented on the committee.

Al-Faraya said strengthening coordination among relevant bodies was essential to ensuring the implementation of reform and rehabilitation plans. He also stressed the importance of monitoring general policy on the treatment, reform and rehabilitation of detainees under appropriate conditions.
He called for the committee to examine the issue of overcrowding in rehabilitation centres, analyse its implications and develop practical ideas and suitable solutions to ease pressure on the facilities and improve the effectiveness of their programmes.
The director of the Rehabilitation Centres Administration at the Public Security Directorate presented a briefing on the current state of the centres, the conditions within them, and approaches to addressing existing challenges.
The committee discussed various issues relating to the rehabilitation centres, including the plans needed to tackle overcrowding, with an emphasis on effective coordination among relevant bodies to put those plans into practice, the ministry said.
