Yasmine Obeid, a forecaster at the Jordan Meteorological Department, stated on Saturday that the Kingdom has been affected by a hot air mass originating from the Arabian Peninsula since Thursday. This mass has contributed to a noticeable rise in temperatures, making the weather hot across various regions and extremely hot in the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.اضافة اعلان

Obeid confirmed in a televised interview on Al Mamlaka channel that the peak impact of this air mass will occur on Saturday and Sunday, prior to a gradual and slight drop in temperatures starting Tuesday.

She added that a slight temperature decrease is expected Tuesday evening, clarifying that indicators point to the hot air mass continuing to influence the region over the coming period, with limited fluctuations in temperature.

She warned of active winds during the afternoon hours, which may kick up dust in Badia regions and reduce horizontal visibility, urging citizens to exercise caution, particularly in those areas.

Obeid stressed the importance of avoiding direct exposure to sunlight for extended periods during peak hours—roughly between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. She also highlighted the critical need to avoid leaving children and the elderly inside closed vehicles, given that temperatures inside rise significantly higher than outside.

Furthermore, she urged against igniting fires in forested and open areas to prevent the risk of wildfires amid high temperatures.

Regarding climate change, Obeid explained that the Kingdom has experienced approximately 28 heatwaves during the month of August since records began for these phenomena. She noted that the longest heatwave occurred in 2023, adding that the world in general is witnessing climate changes reflected in rising temperatures and powerful heatwaves—particularly in Europe, which has experienced severe waves and widespread forest fires.
