The Jerash Directorate of Agriculture expects olive production in the governorate to increase by 20% this year compared with last year, reaching nearly 60,000 tons, according to Jerash Agriculture Director Ola Al-Mahasneh.

Speaking to Al Mamlaka on Tuesday, Al-Mahasneh said olive oil production is expected to reach around 11,400 tons, in addition to approximately 3,000 tons of olives intended for pickling. She noted that olive groves cover around 132,000 dunums in the governorate.
She said directorate teams will conduct inspection tours of 15 licensed olive presses across the governorate to ensure compliance with public health and safety requirements and approved regulations.
The directorate has also carried out 150 awareness and agricultural guidance campaigns benefiting around 500 farmers, alongside spraying campaigns covering nearly 5,000 dunums planted with various olive varieties.
Al-Mahasneh added that the directorate distributed 6,000 insect traps across approximately 12,000 dunums of olive groves, as well as 4,000 colored traps used to monitor indicators of pests and insects across nearly 8,000 dunums.
She urged farmers to contact the directorate’s Agricultural Extension Department regarding any observations or problems affecting their olive trees. The directorate is also conducting field visits to provide advice and guidance and monitor crops.
Separately, Al-Mahasneh said progress on the electronic identification project for the livestock sector in the governorate has reached 60%. She noted that the directorate provides livestock breeders with vaccinations free of charge, in accordance with the vaccination schedule approved by the Ministry of Agriculture.
