Jordan is preparing to supply Lebanon and Syria with a combined 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Monday.

The ministry said the contractual daily quantity designated for Lebanon is approximately 2 million cubic meters, noting that supplies to Lebanon have not yet begun.
In a press statement, the ministry said the daily quantities required will be determined after the Lebanese side confirms the expected supply schedules, once the necessary infrastructure in Lebanon is ready.
Lebanon is currently working to repair and rehabilitate its gas networks, the ministry said.
Natural gas supplies to Lebanon will be provided through imported shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from global markets, which will be unloaded at the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Port of Aqaba.
Regarding Syria, the ministry said the contractual daily quantity is estimated at around 4 million cubic meters, with supplies determined according to Syria's daily requirements.
The ministry stressed that supplying Lebanon and Syria with natural gas simultaneously would not affect Jordan's domestic needs or energy supply security.
Jordan has four sources of natural gas supply, including pipeline gas from Egypt and Chevron, locally produced natural gas from the Risha gas field, and LNG supplied through the floating regasification vessel at Aqaba's LNG terminal.
The ministry said the FSRU has sufficient capacity to cover Jordan's domestic natural gas requirements while also supplying Syria and Lebanon.
According to the ministry, its strategy aims to strengthen energy security by diversifying Jordan's natural gas supply sources and avoiding reliance on a single source. This is intended to ensure continued supplies to power generation plants, primarily, as well as industrial sectors.
Regarding the role of the Jordanian-Lebanese agreement in strengthening Jordan's regional position, the ministry said the agreement contributes to establishing Jordan as a key regional hub for energy exchange and transportation, supported by its infrastructure, including the Arab Gas Pipeline and the floating regasification vessel in Aqaba.
The ministry added that these efforts also support Arab countries, contribute to regional stability and help ease the hardships faced by their populations.
