US President Donald Trump said on Friday that his administration is holding talks with representatives of Iran, adding that progress is being made.
“We are making very good progress with Iran,” Trump told reporters.
He also said the Strait of Hormuz remains open and that the United States had not lost any service members over the past seven months.
Earlier, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: “Israel, indeed the entire Middle East, would not exist today if I had not stopped Iran from having a nuclear weapon.”
“Nobody wants to say it, but everyone knows it is true,” he added.
Meanwhile, *The New York Times*, citing officials and analysts, reported that Trump appears inclined to pursue negotiations rather than escalate the war with Iran, which they said remains unpopular among voters, officials and military analysts.
*The Wall Street Journal*, citing mediators, reported that Iran had shown some openness to discussing nuclear issues but had yet to offer any concrete concessions.
Iran has reportedly submitted seven conditions to the United States through intermediary countries for resuming negotiations and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that they be implemented.
In a related development, an Iranian military spokesman warned that any new attack, military adventure or hostile action in the region would not lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that reopening the waterway depends on the United States meeting Tehran’s seven conditions.
The spokesman added that if Iran came under attack, it would target all US physical and non-physical assets without geographical restrictions. He also said Iran’s Supreme Leader had stressed the need for a swift response to any attack during a meeting with military commanders.
These developments come as diplomatic efforts continue over Tehran’s proposal, submitted through mediators, with attention focused on Washington’s response to Iran’s demands before the two sides move toward final negotiations.
