King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba welcomed its first regular direct flights from the UAE capital Abu Dhabi on Friday evening. The flights, operated by Royal Jordanian Airlines twice a week, mark the launch of a new direct air route between the two cities.

Dr. Thabet Al-Nabulsi, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, said the arrival of the first flights from Abu Dhabi represents an important step in the partnership between the authority and Royal Jordanian.
He noted that the launch of the Abu Dhabi and Riyadh routes expands Aqaba’s direct air connectivity with Gulf markets. Regular flights will also provide visitors with flexible travel options, including short weekend trips.
Al-Nabulsi said expanding the air network would enable Aqaba to reach a broader range of visitors and strengthen its ability to offer an integrated tourism experience combining the city’s coastal attractions with the Golden Triangle of Wadi Rum and Petra, while supporting sustainable tourism activity throughout the year.
According to the operating schedule, direct flights between Aqaba and both Abu Dhabi and Riyadh will operate twice a week for each destination. The schedule also includes the launch of a direct route to Moscow on October 25, with two flights per week, in addition to increasing flights on the Cairo-Aqaba route to three per week.
The arrival of the Abu Dhabi flight came one day after the airport welcomed its first regular flights from Riyadh, signaling the start of the new air connectivity network with Gulf markets following a promotional tour conducted by the authority in cooperation with Royal Jordanian in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh.
The tour aimed to promote Aqaba and its tourism offerings and raise awareness of the new routes.
