This night is considered blessed, as it was when the Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for a nation of great destiny. It is a night of immense significance, recorded by all existence in joy and supplication. Whoever stands in prayer during this great night with faith and seeking reward shall have their past sins forgiven. Acts of goodness and worship performed on this night are better in the sight of Allah than a thousand months.

Dr. Ahmad Al-Harasis, Media Spokesperson for the General Iftaa’ Department, stated that this night overflows with divine light, the presence of angels, and the Spirit (Jibril). It is a night where celestial radiance and divine breezes descend upon the faithful who are standing in prayer and devotion, honoring the revelation of the Holy Quran.

He added that Al-Khalil bin Ahmed described Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) as the "Night of Narrowness," drawing from the Quranic verse: "and he whose provision is restricted (qudira)", meaning tightened. It is so named because the earth becomes crowded with the multitude of angels descending upon it that night—a descent that brings goodness and blessings to the people of the earth.

He further explained that according to Ibn Abbas (RA), it is the "Night of Decree," during which the year’s rain, sustenance, life, and death are ordained until the following year. Al-Harasis noted that the true preference for this night lies in the revelation of the Quran, which was sent down as a whole from the "Preserved Tablet" (Al-Lawh al-Mahfuz) to the "House of Might" (Bayt al-Izza) in the lowest heaven.

Regarding the specific timing of the night, Dr. Al-Harasis clarified that scholars hold different views. Some believe it alternates among the last ten nights of Ramadan, while others, like Imam Al-Shafi’i, believe it is a fixed night that does not change.

Signs of the Night
Quoting the Prophetic tradition, Al-Harasis explained that the signs of Laylat al-Qadr include a clear and bright atmosphere, as if illuminated by a radiant moon, with neither extreme cold nor heat. Furthermore, the sun rises the following morning appearing pure and white, without intense rays, resembling the full moon.

The General Iftaa’ Department highlighted that the most recommended supplication for this night is what the Prophet (PBUH) taught Lady Aisha (RA): "O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me" (Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni).

The department emphasized that the ultimate testament to the night's virtue is the dedicated Surah in the Quran (Surah Al-Qadr), affirming that worship on this night is superior to a thousand months.
