The spokesperson for Jordan’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Muhannad Al-Khatib, revealed comprehensive statistics on the state of the higher education sector in the Kingdom for the 2025–2026 academic year, highlighting differences in enrollment figures and capacity between public and private educational institutions.اضافة اعلان

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Thursday, Al-Khatib said that public universities and colleges, comprising 10 public universities and 10 university colleges, enroll the largest share of students, with 287,320 students, representing 60 percent of the total student population in the Kingdom.

By comparison, the private sector, which includes 18 universities and 42 community colleges, enrolls 192,689 students, accounting for 40 percent of the overall total of 480,009 students.

Regarding academic programs, Al-Khatib said public universities and colleges offer 1,322 academic specializations, compared with 899 specializations in private institutions.

The higher education system has also introduced 94 new specializations in the public sector and 88 new specializations in the private sector to meet evolving labor market demands.

As for teaching staff, the figures showed that public universities employ 8,508 faculty members, representing 60 percent of the Kingdom’s total academic staff, while private universities employ 5,644 faculty members, making up the remaining 40 percent, out of a national total of 14,152 faculty members.

In terms of international students, the data showed that private institutions host the majority, with 36,239 international students, accounting for 65 percent of all non-Jordanian students, compared with 19,171 students (35 percent) enrolled in public institutions.

Overall, Jordan hosts 55,410 international students from 119 countries worldwide, representing 11.5 percent of the total student population in the country.
