Jordanians will celebrate tomorrow, Friday, the 64th birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
His Majesty was born in Amman on January 30, 1962. He is the 41st descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the eldest son of the late King Hussein bin Talal and Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein.

King Abdullah II received his early education at the Islamic Scientific College in Amman, then at Deerfield Academy in the United States, before continuing his studies at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
His Majesty also received his military education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, before embarking on a distinguished military career within the ranks of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army. He rose through the military ranks and remained in service until assuming command of the Royal Special Forces, which he reorganized in line with the latest international military standards, transforming them into the Special Operations Command.
On January 24, 1999, a Royal Decree was issued appointing His Majesty, then a Prince, as Crown Prince. King Abdullah II assumed his constitutional powers as King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on February 7, 1999, becoming the fourth King of the Kingdom. On the same day, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in the Jordan Armed Forces.
His Majesty married Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah on June 10, 1993. They were blessed with two sons—His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein, born on June 28, 1994, and His Royal Highness Prince Hashem, born on January 30, 2005—and two daughters—Her Royal Highness Princess Iman, born on September 27, 1996, and Her Royal Highness Princess Salma, born on September 26, 2000.
Their Majesties were also blessed with their first granddaughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Iman, daughter of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa Al Hussein, on August 3, 2024, and with their granddaughter Amina, daughter of Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Abdullah II and Mr. Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, on February 16, 2025.
During 2025, His Majesty carried out a series of field visits and inaugurated a number of economic, service, and development projects, most notably the Hussein Cancer Center building in Aqaba, two projects at Queen Alia International Airport, the National Seed Bank, and Al-Malaha Housing in Deir Alla.
In the same year, His Majesty conducted approximately 46 working visits abroad, during which he held 255 meetings with world leaders and political figures. The most prominent included an Asian tour covering Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, and Pakistan, aimed at strengthening cooperation and partnerships—particularly in the economic and investment fields—as well as a European tour to Italy, Hungary, and Slovenia to develop cooperation in ways that serve mutual interests and contribute to regional stability.
His Majesty led Jordanian diplomacy at international forums, defending Arab humanitarian causes and reaffirming Jordan’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause and efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza. Among his diplomatic efforts, His Majesty received 108 heads of state and political leaders and delivered nine speeches at international and local forums.
In 2025, the national economy charted an exceptional course characterized by resilience and the ability to overcome challenges, achieving a set of positive indicators despite regional difficulties. The same year also saw His Majesty direct the formation of the National Council for Future Technology, under the direct supervision of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.
The sports sector received significant attention and support from His Majesty, contributing to a qualitative leap that placed Jordan on the global sports map. One of the most notable achievements reflecting this royal support was the historic and unprecedented qualification of the national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
