The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fouad Majali, affirmed that Jordan’s re-election to the UNESCO Executive Board for the third consecutive term since 2017 reflects international recognition of the Kingdom’s constructive role within the organization and its commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the humanitarian, scientific, and cultural fields.
Majali emphasized that Jordan will continue working with member states to promote quality education, protect cultural heritage, empower youth and women, and leverage science for sustainable development.
He further noted that Jordan’s membership in UNESCO serves as an effective platform for advancing its firm position in defending Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, in line with the Hashemite custodianship over these sacred places. He added that the Kingdom remains steadfast in safeguarding the spiritual and cultural heritage of Jerusalem and in countering attempts to alter its historical and legal identity.
Majali expressed Jordan’s gratitude to the member states that voted in favor of its re-election, stressing that this reflects the international community’s confidence and respect for Jordan’s moderate policies and diplomacy based on openness, cooperation, and partnership with the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
