Today, Saturday coincides with International Equal Pay Day.

The violations to be monitored include gender inequality in salaries and non-compliance to the minimum wage, which is 260 JD.

Head of the (GFJTU), Mazen Al-Maaytah, said this occasion is an opportunity to stress the workers' right to equal payment without bias to gender as per the local legislation and international conventions.

Maaytah added that women have the right to take a salary equal to that of men in jobs that require equal value and effort, adding that the stereotype about depriving women of this right decreases women's economic participation.

He added that the federation, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, enhanced gender equality in workers' rights, mainly the salary issue, and tackled the reasons behind expanding the gap between both genders and finding the best solutions.

Maaytah contended that the gender gap is more critical in the private education sector.
