In its recent session, chaired by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, the Council approved the numbers for the regular (competitive) program for bachelor’s degrees at the nine official Jordanian universities as well as the World Islamic Sciences University. It also approved the numbers for the regular (competitive) program for intermediate diploma programs at community colleges of official universities and several other government community colleges.
The ministry stated that these numbers were determined based on several criteria, including:
Strict adherence to the capacity of each major
Numbers proposed by the Boards of Trustees of each university, within capacity limits
Numbers recommended by the Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, based on accreditation standards for each program
Council decisions to reduce admissions in saturated and low-demand majors by 60%, and to gradually reduce admissions in medicine and dentistry at official Jordanian universities, as previously announced, to meet the maximum allowable student capacity in each field.
The Council approved 38,131 students for bachelor’s programs, excluding:
Students benefiting from the Royal Scholarships for children of tribes in Jordanian Badia schools and schools with special circumstances
Students with foreign high school certificates
Children of Jordanian women married to non-Jordanians
For intermediate diploma programs, the Council approved 7,990 students.
Additionally, 1,286 students will be admitted in direct admission majors, including:
Majors at the German Jordanian University
Aerospace Engineering and Arts majors at the University of Jordan
Arts majors at Yarmouk University
It is noted that the general policy allows official universities to admit Jordanian students in parallel programs, provided that these students do not exceed 30% of the number admitted in the regular program for each major, as confirmed by the Higher Education Council. This is in addition to international program students.
