The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has officially commenced the third phase of its strategic national project to develop Amman’s neighborhoods, under the title “Al-Mahatta Beautification.” This phase focuses on a 700-meter stretch of Al-Jaish Street, a key traffic corridor in the capital.

According to a statement released by GAM on Sunday, Eng. Mohammad Abu Zaitoun, Executive Director of the Amman Neighborhoods and Tourist Paths Development Project, said the third phase is aimed at enhancing traffic flow by adding a fourth traffic lane and upgrading infrastructure, including modernizing rainwater drainage and wastewater networks.
The phase also involves removing the old linear park and deteriorated walls that pose safety risks to the public.
Abu Zaitoun added that the project includes the construction of model fences, new sidewalks, modern lighting, advertising panels, and urban green spaces, including tree planting and pedestrian bridges to improve accessibility for residents.
He noted that the first and second phases of the Al-Mahatta area development have already been completed, involving the construction of a park and a playground. Future stages will focus on widening Rfifan Al-Majali Street and Al-Jaish Street by removing all illegal encroachments on the planned road widths and redesigning traffic flow to better serve the local community, especially given the area’s significance as one of the main gateways to Amman.
The third phase is expected to be completed within two months, and will include complete repaving of the designated section of Al-Jaish Street.
The project is being implemented by GAM in coordination with specialized consultants, ensuring the highest standards of quality and public safety.
