The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that the Cybercrime Unit received dozens of complaints from citizens who fell victim to online fraud. This occurred after they contacted fraudulent pages promoting the sale of cell phones in installments at attractive prices.

The spokesperson explained that investigations into these complaints revealed that unknown cyber-fraudsters set up numerous fake pages to advertise cell phone sales via installments. Once victims contacted these pages and agreed on a purchase, the fraudster would request an electronic transfer to a digital wallet. After receiving the down payment, the fraudster would disappear and stop responding to the victims' calls and messages.
The spokesperson confirmed that through technical investigations and financial tracking, the primary suspect in these fraud cases was identified and arrested, and investigations are underway.
The Cybercrime Unit urged the public not to interact with unverified pages or accounts impersonating cell phone stores that claim to sell phones or any other items in installments. They also advised against making any financial transfers before receiving the agreed-upon goods, and to follow secure buying and selling practices to avoid falling victim to online fraud.
