AMMAN— The
head of the Jordanian Car Rental Association, Saleh Jallouq, said on Sunday
that the sector incurred over JD100 million in losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He added that car
rental agencies are looking for ways to rejuvenate the sector, indicating that
the losses accumulated due to decline in revenues and car rental prices, in
addition to the ongoing payment of obligations without tangible exemptions to
the sector.
Jallouq contended that
the return of Jordanian expatriates to the Kingdom over the last month has
helped some agencies, yet the situation deteriorated again in August. He also
stressed that the real revival of the sector will only be realized with the
return of the tourism.
The number of the
tourist vehicles operating in the sector dwindled to around 9,000 during the
pandemic compared to the 13,000 cars before the pandemic, according to Jallouq.
He called for the government to exempt the sector from the licensing fees and
taxes.
