Today, Saturday, marks the 23rd anniversary of the passing of the late His Royal Highness Prince Zaid bin Shaker, who departed on August 30, 2002.

He was among the first generation of leaders who contributed to building and advancing the nation, standing alongside the late King Hussein bin Talal during critical periods in Jordan’s history.

The late prince held prominent leadership positions, including Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Military Advisor to the late King Hussein, Commander-in-Chief of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

On February 4, 1996, the late King Hussein conferred upon him the title of “Prince.” Prince Zaid also received several Jordanian and foreign honors, including the Grand Cordon of the Order of Al-Nahda, the First Class Order of Al-Nahda, and the First Class Order of the Star of Jordan.

Prince Zaid was born on September 4, 1934, and studied at Victoria College in Alexandria, Egypt. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1955 and later from Leavenworth College in the United States in 1963. – (Petra)
