His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Samarkand on Tuesday, during which they discussed ways to strengthen relations between Jordan and Uzbekistan, as well as enhance cooperation across various fields.اضافة اعلان

During the talks attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy His Majesty thanked President Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome and hospitality, praising the political relations that have brought the two countries together over the past 32 years.

The King said this visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in the distinguished relations between Jordan and Uzbekistan, stressing the need to build on promising opportunities identified in the economic and military sectors.

His Majesty also commended President Mirziyoyev’s vision for the future of his people, and his leadership.

For his part, President Mirziyoyev welcomed the King during his first visit to Uzbekistan, which affirms His Majesty’s appreciation for Uzbekistan’s rich heritage, its people, and its diversity.

President Mirziyoyev praised the King’s commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue, as well as His Majesty’s efforts to maintain stability in the Middle East, adding that the King is one of the most influential leaders in the Muslim world.

President Mirziyoyev said Jordan is steadily moving towards further development thanks to His Majesty’s wise policies, and that the country enjoys an important position in the international arena.

He also highlighted the similarities between Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision and Uzbekistan’s 2030 Vision.

He noted that this year marks the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, adding that Jordan was one of the first Arab countries to open an embassy in Uzbekistan.

The talks also touched on developments in the Middle East, with the King renewing his call for the international community to step up efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore security and stability in the region.

His Majesty emphasised the need to stop the war on Gaza, end the humanitarian catastrophe there, and allow the uninterrupted flow of aid to all areas of the Strip.

The King urged the international community to push for an end to the dangerous escalations in the West Bank, and the attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s rejection and condemnation of any attempts to occupy or annex land in Gaza or the West Bank, or to displace Palestinians.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Awqaf Minister Mohammad Khalayleh, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Demie Haddad attended the talks.

The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of nine agreements, two cooperation protocols, and three memorandums of understanding between the two countries’ governments across various fields, including higher education, tourism, visa exemptions, investment, customs, agriculture, air services, religious affairs, extradition, and standards and metrology.

The King bestowed on President Mirziyoyev the Order of the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance), granted to heads of state, in recognition of his efforts and in affirmation of the distinguished relations between the two countries and their peoples.

His Majesty also visited an exhibition of products manufactured in Uzbekistan, including textiles and fabrics, technological equipment and software, as well as chemical, pharmaceutical, agricultural and food products.

On Monday, the King visited cultural, touristic, and religious sites in the city of Samarkand, including the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad’s companion, Qutham ibn Abbas, the "Eternal City" tourism site, and Registan Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
