Campaign to control and remove violations in Petra

AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in collaboration with partners and relevant authorities, conducted a campaign on Monday to control and remove violations within the archaeological site. According to Al-Ghad Newspaper, the campaign aimed to address misuse and illegal use of archaeological landmarks, putting an end to encroachments. A press release from the authority said it the action was part of its commitment to enforcing the law and its continuous efforts to preserve the uniqueness and significance of the archaeological site. Several violations were addressed through the legal jurisdiction granted to the archaeological protection patrols within PDTRA. Offenders were referred to the appropriate judicial authorities for legal action. The authority highlighted those requests for judicial enforcement against some violators had reached approximately 90 requests since 2019. It said the latest action reflects its commitment to working collaboratively with relevant authorities to enforce the rule of law and its provisions, ensuring that violators do not evade legal consequences.
