Speaking ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, the minister stated that regional countries could establish an independent regional security architecture, but this requires precise knowledge of U.S. and Israeli goals. He added that transparency in this regard is essential to ensure regional stability and avoid escalation, emphasizing that clear goal-setting is vital for the peace process and security.
Regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the minister expressed support for imposing sanctions on those responsible for closing the strait, considering freedom of navigation in this vital passage to be of paramount importance to the global economy. He further emphasized that he sees no role for NATO in the region, arguing that crises in the Strait of Hormuz require regional solutions rather than NATO interventions.
On the Lebanese crisis, the minister expressed concern over the "tragic situation in Lebanon," highlighting the difficult economic and political conditions facing the Lebanese people. He announced that Germany would provide an aid package worth 188 million euros to support Lebanon in navigating this crisis.
In another context, the minister confirmed that Germany and the European Union remain committed to energy sector sanctions imposed on Russia, noting that these sanctions must be maintained and not eased until their intended goals are met.
