Al Kaabi said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the explosion, stressing that the incident has not affected Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

He confirmed that gas facilities and the Ras Laffan Port were not impacted by the blast, adding that Qatar has sufficient gas supplies to meet domestic consumption needs.

Earlier, QatarEnergy announced that it had brought under control a fire that broke out Sunday evening following an operational incident during the start-up phase at the Barzan plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

In a statement, QatarEnergy said the incident resulted in an explosion and fire at the facility, which is dedicated to meeting local gas demand. The company added that emergency response teams were immediately deployed and successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
