AMMAN — Jordanian MP, Saleh Al-Armouti, calls for adherence to the Constitution's Article 33 by presenting the “Water for energy” deal to parliament before official signing. This article mandates parliamentary approval for agreements incurring state expenses or affecting public and private Jordanian rights.اضافة اعلان

Armouti criticizes tying state resources to Israelis and allocating them land for energy production. He highlights that the government's actions disregard the will of Jordanians and the parliament's rejection of the agreement, Jo24 News reported.

The deal requires Jordan to build a UAE sponsored 600 megawatts of solar power capacity that would be exported to Israel. In return, Israel would provide water-scarce Jordan with 200 million cubic meters of desalinated water, as according.

Alternative solutions
Armouti challenges the government’s claims that the deal was among private companies, questioning their authority over Jordanian state lands and funds. He also emphasizes that the government did not respect the will of the Jordanian people or the parliament's decision to reject the agreement.

He emphasizes Jordan's alternative water source, the National Carrier project. The government has invited bids for this project, with five to seven companies participating. He stressed the importance of proceeding with the National Carrier project and not relying on water from the occupying entity.
