Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei stated that His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to China represents an important milestone in the journey of friendship between the two countries. He noted that both sides plan to sign a series of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding, expanding the scope of their economic and developmental partnership.

In an article titled "Writing Together a New Chapter in the Strategic Partnership Between China and Jordan," published by China’s People's Daily, Guo added that His Majesty the King will hold talks with the Chinese President to exchange views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The ambassador highlighted that His Majesty is considered a friend of the Chinese people, noting that this is His Majesty's ninth visit to China since ascending to the throne. He pointed out that during the King's visit to China in 2015, the King and the Chinese President announced the elevation of Chinese-Jordanian relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

Guo stated that the visit comes amid the ongoing complexity and shifts in the Middle East region, emphasizing that King Abdullah II is the first Arab leader received by China this year. He added that President Xi Jinping will work alongside His Majesty to provide strategic direction to further deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations and maintain peace and stability in the region.

49 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Regarding political relations, Guo said that mutual political trust between China and Jordan has continuously deepened over the 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Both countries have consistently supported each other on core interests and key concerns, noting Jordan’s commitment to the One-China principle.

He added that China supports Jordan in advancing a development path suited to its national circumstances, preserving its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and supporting the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

He demonstrated that Jordan and China share aligned positions on international and regional issues, upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, firmly supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation, and working to safeguard regional peace and security while uniting efforts in international humanitarian action.

China as Jordan’s Largest Trading Partner in 2025

On economic cooperation, the ambassador mentioned that practical cooperation between Jordan and China has yielded fruitful results in recent years, noting that China became Jordan’s largest trading partner in 2025.

According to Chinese statistics cited by Guo, total bilateral trade in the first quarter of this year reached "nearly $2.58 billion, registering a year-on-year growth of over 30%," which he described as reflecting "strong growth momentum."

He revealed that both sides plan to sign a series of cooperation agreements and MOUs to boost cooperation across trade, investment, energy, minerals, tourism, education, agriculture, and science and technology.

Furthermore, both countries look forward to expanding cooperation into emerging sectors, including green development, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.

He noted that both sides will work to align the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision, embarking together on a new journey toward modernization.

Chinese Projects in Jordan

In the realm of people-to-people relations, Guo highlighted that Chinese projects provided to Jordan—such as upgrading the water network and improving roads aimed at enhancing citizens' lives—stand as a testament to the friendship between the two peoples.

He noted that Chinese culture enjoys widespread popularity among Jordanians, with a growing interest in learning the Chinese language. Both sides will build upon the foundation provided by seven official Chinese language teaching centers and two Confucius Institutes to achieve further expansion.

Finally, he stated that both nations continue to make progress across universities, media, think tanks, culture, tourism, cinema, friendly city cooperation, and facilitating the movement of individuals. This cooperation will contribute to cultivating more "Ambassadors of Chinese-Jordanian Friendship" who will carry the torch of friendship across generations and expand the reach and impact of their bilateral cooperation.
