AMMAN — The Arab Parliament, on Saturday, gave its approval for a proposal submitted by Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi to establish a regional center for food security in Jordan. اضافة اعلان

The proposal was based on an idea put forward by King Abdullah and is meant to serve as a meeting point between Africa, Asia, and Europe, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Food securityDuring a speech at the Arab Parliament's fifth conference on Saturday, Safadi explained that Jordan can facilitate and coordinate Arab and international efforts to address food crises and disasters. He added that the proposal has received support from the UN after the Kingdom adopted a new national strategy for food security.

Safadi stated that food security has always been a top priority for King Abdullah and Crown Prince Hussein. He explained that Jordan has been working towards achieving food security by 2023 through the implementation of a comprehensive agricultural plan and a national strategy for food security.

Regional tiesIn his speech, Safadi also touched upon the importance of supporting Egypt and Sudan in their efforts to protect their rights in Ethiopia's Al-Nahda Dam issue, as well as Iraq's efforts to achieve the aspirations of its people. He stressed the importance of supporting Libya and Yemen and rejecting all forms of external interference in their affairs.

On the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, Safadi said: "Jerusalem for the Hashemites and all Jordanians is not only a political issue, but also an issue of existence. Throughout my life, including 16 years in parliament, I have not heard a speech by His Majesty the King without talking about Jerusalem in all international forums, as well as HRH Crown Prince Hussein".

Safadi concluded by expressing his pride in the strong ties between Jordan and the Arab Gulf countries and the important contributions they have made to the Arab world.

Additionally, Safadi offered condolences to the victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes and presented a proposal to establish a fund under the supervision of the Arab Parliament to collect donations and aid for the families of the victims and the injured.
