Authorities’ suspicions were raised by a request to renew the work permit of a foreign worker.

Presiding Judges Ahmed Al-Omari and Adweah Marzouq Al-Amoush heard the testimony of 32 witnesses at the Amman Court of First Instance.

The Public Prosecutor has charged the defendants — who include professionals, companies, and government employees from two public institutions — with several crimes, including misuse of public office, forgery, and bribery.

Several of the defendants provided financial recompense and returned funds acquired through illegal construction and the forgery of work permits to the Treasury.

Fifteen defendants remain on trial.
