Trump, responding to questions from Time magazine regarding Barghouti, 66, stated that he "will make a decision."

Fadwa Barghouti wrote, “Mr. President, a true partner awaits you—a person who can help achieve our shared dream of a just and lasting peace in the region.”

Barghouti had been among the prisoners Hamas sought to release during the latest prisoner exchange deal with Israel under the Gaza ceasefire, signed at the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit based on a U.S.-led plan.

However, on October 9, Israeli authorities stated that the prisoner exchange would not include Barghouti.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in response to related questions that he had no new updates on the matter.

Barghouti has been sentenced by Israeli authorities to five life terms plus 40 years for directing attacks during the Second Intifada.
