North Korea reaffirmed on Sunday that its status as a nuclear-armed state is "final and irreversible," stressing that any US or Western attempts to revive the issue of its denuclearization are doomed to fail.

A spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, in a press release carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), that the United States and its allies continue to escalate nuclear threats against Pyongyang through military cooperation mechanisms and joint drills, while simultaneously demanding that North Korea abandon its nuclear capabilities.

The spokesperson added that discussing North Korean denuclearization under current US policies is an "unfounded illusion," emphasizing that this issue "has been settled definitively and irreversibly."

Pyongyang accused the United States, Japan, and South Korea of escalating a nuclear confrontation in the region, while also criticizing what it described as Western attempts to impose illegitimate policies and measures on sovereign nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that its country's nuclear program aims to deter external threats, protect sovereignty and national security, and ensure regional stability. It emphasized that Pyongyang will continue to develop its military and technical capabilities to counter "the growing threats from hostile nations."

Notably, officials from the United States and South Korea discussed ways to strengthen nuclear deterrence and prepare for North Korea's expanding weapons program during talks held in Seoul under the Nuclear Consultative Group last week.
