According to U.S. officials cited by the paper, Washington will supply Ukraine with intelligence to launch long-range missile strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, at a time when President Donald Trump’s administration is considering sending powerful weapons to Kyiv that could place additional targets inside Russia within range.
President Trump recently approved allowing U.S. intelligence agencies and the Pentagon to assist Kyiv in conducting these strikes.
Officials told the paper that U.S. representatives have also asked NATO members to provide similar support, highlighting Trump’s deepening backing of Ukraine as his efforts to advance peace talks stall.
They noted that this marks the first time the Trump administration would help facilitate Ukrainian long-range missile strikes on Russian energy targets inside Russian territory.
According to the report, the intelligence sharing would enable Ukraine to more effectively target refineries, pipelines, power plants, and other infrastructure far from its borders, with the aim of depriving the Kremlin of revenues and fuel to support its invasion.
The United States is also considering supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk, Barracuda, and other U.S.-made surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles with a range of about 500 miles (around 800 kilometers), according to other administration officials, though no decision has yet been made on what might be sent.
Approval of the expanded intelligence sharing came just before Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a social media post last week, declaring that Ukraine could reclaim all of its occupied territories, U.S. officials said.
