Current and former U.S. officials have said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing pressure to continue the military campaign in Lebanon, according to The Washington Post.
U.S. intelligence agencies have reportedly warned the administration of President Donald Trump that Netanyahu is likely to take steps that could undermine Trump’s efforts to secure a lasting peace agreement with Iran. According to the officials, the Israeli prime minister is under significant political pressure to continue Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.
A U.S. official previously stated that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire following a military escalation that resulted in the martyrdom of 47 people in Lebanon in Israeli strikes.
The official said that the truce, which has since entered into force, was brokered by the United States and Qatar following discussions involving Israel and Iran.
Separately, a diplomat said that Hezbollah and Israel had agreed to suspend hostilities under an arrangement facilitated by Qatar, the United States, and Iran.
