Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that at least five people were martyred in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Arabsalim in southern Lebanon on Saturday morning, despite a ceasefire agreement reached a day earlier between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to the agency, Israeli warplanes and drones carried out a series of airstrikes across the Nabatieh region throughout the night and into the morning, destroying residential buildings and homes. Israeli artillery also shelled Nabatieh and its outskirts before dawn.
A U.S. official said on Friday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire following military escalation that resulted in the martyrdom of 47 people in Lebanon in Israeli strikes, while Israel announced that four of its soldiers had been killed by Hezbollah fire.
The official stated that the truce, which has now entered into effect, was brokered by the United States and Qatar following discussions with Israel and Iran.
