In a brief statement, the military confirmed that Staff Sergeant Alexander Felin, 29, was "killed during combat" on Wednesday. The statement further noted that seven reserve officers and soldiers sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Geopolitical Context
The casualty announcement came just hours before U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the war in the Middle East across various fronts, including Lebanon.

Following the announcement of the Washington-Tehran understanding, the intensity of military operations and cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israel slowed down, though they have not completely ceased.

Casualty Toll Overview
The escalation, which intensified significantly earlier this spring, has resulted in high casualties:

Lebanese Side: Lebanese authorities previously announced that intensive Israeli operations—consisting of airstrikes and ground incursions—have resulted in the deaths of more than 3,800 people to date.

Israeli Side: Since March 2, 2026, the Israeli side has recorded the deaths of 31 soldiers and one civilian contractor.
