The death toll from an armed attack and suicide bombing targeting the historic headquarters of the Pakistani police in the northern city of Kohat rose to at least 31 people, including 16 police officers, on Saturday. More than 100 people were also injured, according to Pakistani authorities.

The Pakistan News Agency reported, citing security sources, that armed clashes were still underway inside the compound, which houses the Counter-Terrorism Department, the Special Branch and several key police units in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Local police said several attackers remained barricaded inside the Special Branch section of the compound, which has been under attack since Friday evening. Security forces continued to surround the area and exchange fire with the assailants into Saturday morning.
