The archdiocese’s General Administrator, Father Nabil Haddad, said the decision to name the church “Martyrs’ Church” was made to commemorate the nine martyrs who fell in the terrorist attack that struck the town on October 23, and to honor their sacrifice, which he said represents a testament to the strength of their faith and their deep roots in Jordanian soil.
He added that the new name carries profound spiritual and national significance, reflecting the commitment of the church’s members to their faith, land and national identity. He stressed that the Christian presence, whose historical roots in the region date back to the fourth century, will continue to stand as evidence of the authenticity of that presence and of the unity of Jordanians and the cohesion of their national fabric, Muslims and Christians alike, under the wise Hashemite leadership.
Haddad stressed that naming the church “Martyrs’ Church” is not merely a change of name, but a way of preserving the memory of the martyrs’ sacrifice in the history of the place and transforming their memory into a message of faith, steadfastness and loyalty.
He noted that their sacrifice would only strengthen the church’s members in their commitment to Christ and Jordan, stressing that Eastern Christianity and Jordanian identity are inseparable twins. He affirmed that the church would remain a beacon of truth and hope and a witness to the unity and history of Jordanians.
