Hebrew news site i24NEWS reported, citing a Syrian source close to Transitional Phase Head Ahmad Al-Shara‘, that Damascus is showing openness to a U.S.-backed security initiative coordinated with Israel, which includes establishing a joint mechanism for security and military cooperation.اضافة اعلان

The initiative aims to “enhance stability in southern Syria, dismantle illegal militias, and deepen Syrian–American relations,” according to the source.

The source added that Syria “does not object to Israel opening a liaison office in Damascus, without diplomatic status,” marking an unprecedented step after decades of severed ties and hostility between the two countries. This could indicate a move toward limited direct coordination.

The source also revealed that Israel requested Washington to postpone a separate security agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurds, to allow Israel time to arrange its own security understandings with the Syrian government.

Israel is believed to be seeking to strengthen its negotiating position by leveraging tensions between Damascus and the SDF, as well as the unrest in the Druze-majority Suwayda governorate.

These developments follow a U.S.-mediated meeting in Paris between Syrian and Israeli officials, which resulted in a joint statement. The agreement included the creation of a permanent liaison cell to coordinate intelligence sharing, reduce military escalation, engage diplomatically, and explore potential commercial opportunities, all under U.S. supervision.
